Europe Corn Crop May Not Exceed 55 Million Tons, Agritel Says

By Whitney McFerron
Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- European corn production may “struggle to exceed” 55 million metric tons as yields in Ukraine and the Balkans region have been “disappointing,” Paris-based farm adviser Agritel said.
Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania, which had hot and dry weather this year, are “especially affected,” Agritel wrote on its website today. On Aug. 31, the European Commission projected that the bloc would harvest 60 million tons of corn.

FAO’s Graziano Da Silva Doesn’t See Speculation in Food Prices

By Nadine Skoczylas

Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- There is no sign of speculation in food prices, said Jose Graziano Da Silva, director general of the Food & Agriculture Organization in Rome.
Leaders still need to keep “vigilant” on prices, he said at a press conference today. There is “no reason” to suspect a food crisis is developing, he said.
